Or is it also to stop working class kids from attending University?
Top Northumberland Tory bod, working class Conservative Councillor Wayne Daley has reminded the Prime Minister on @RishiSunak social media page about his hatred of the PM’s decision to stop students from abroad bringing their families into the UK.
This ultra right wing move by the PM clearly shows he and his chums have no link with reality, and as the codgers group we will explain why within this article and appeal to you our readers to ask the Ultra Right wing Tories on Northumberland County Council whether they truly support this move.
On average, international students in the 2021/22 cohort make a £58m net economic contribution to the UK economy per constituency. This is equivalent to £560 per member of the resident population.
Students from abroad are highly likely to see this move as a kick in the teeth and support for Universities in the UK will quickly dwindle as students begin to feel unwanted and possibly vulnerable in what's becoming a right wing state even recognised by one of the longest and most supportive Conservative Councillor in the huge county of Northumberland.
Many university establishments on the continent and in the USA have very good reputations and a drift of both student cash and economic brain power to other learned colleges will damage Britain for years to come.
The other problems with the PM’s edict is that the cash that will be lost through what's seen by many as the lack of support for UK Colleges and Universities will have to be replaced through increased taxes from 2024/5 financial year as students begin to drift away leading to the closure of many educational establishments
That drift may also lead to another top Tory aim being delivered as colleges and universities close their own doors through financial instability, the door will also slam shut on working class people from the UK being able to afford education beyond school as both costs and places will become prohibitive.
In Northumberland two new colleges have been planned through the unloved levelling up schemes rolled out through councils, one in Ashington and One in Blyth, but those new establishments are to be managed by local universities who will now possibly find they can’t afford to take them as the throughput of cash poured into their coffers from students from abroad will begin to disappear.
This very dodgy decision by Tories at Westminster to show how pathetically tough they are will damage communities the length and breadth of the UK. It needs challenging to save hundreds of thousands of jobs from cleaners, craftspersons dons and lecturers from disappearing into the scrap heap that is sited right next door to ‘Fortress Britain’.
