Taking our codgerly look around social media sites this week we have noticed top opposition members of Northumberland County Council explaining to staff who are being shifted from the Counties Market Towns to fill up the almost empty County Hall on the outskirts of Morpeth, explaining that they were not part of the recent decision making process and were locked out of discussions which will affect the lives of many of their constituents and joint employees.
That decision taken in secret by 9 ultra right wing Cabinet members who on social media seem to be led by the nose by a new Councillor whose the chairperson of Seaton Valley Conservatives without any reasons for its implementation, The decision appears to be backed up by the Council’s new closure of its redundancy policy. It seems the shifts of staff who will have to endure the huge cost burden of travel from this huge counties outlying offices based in market towns quite close to their homes or in many cases working from their own homes and endure the reductions in their meagre family budgets to suit the chosen unnecessary shift to the Tories Palace of Mirrors.
The lack of honest debate with residents trade unions and staff is typical of a county council who employ a number of very highly paid top officers who may have never visited County Hall and sit counting their huge salaries at home in London or the Midlands just like the absentee landlords who left the Irish to suffer through the potato famines.
The cabinet members and their associates who dream up and enjoy these pressures being placed on their staff and workers need to be answerable to Northumberland’s public and the communication through the press that they are looking for cash savings need to be measured against the class structure being developed by this employer, if your highly paid stay at home up to 300 mile away and get paid, if your a lower paid employee travel into County Hall and enjoy the loss in wages, pain and time this idea will bring you as an employee and the effect on your family at home as this decision is a pay cut beyond the norm.
