Ian Levy MP points towards the high cost of rail in Northumberland! As his chums lower bus travel costs.
Ian Levy MP, who has had his picture taken as many times as possible near the engineering works of the Northumberland Line railway project may have had a complete change of mind recently.
When the news broke that his chums on Northumberland County Council were unable to fund the massive construction costs of Bebside hub with a bridge to cross the Northumberland Spine Road and the expense of future proofing Bedlington station, the next phase gateway to Morpeth and connections to the East Coast mainline it was seen as the opportunity by Tories in Seaton Valley to demand two platform halts, one at Seghill and one at New Hartley, both stations blanked from the line reopening by Northumberland Conservatives. Ian Levy MP didn’t voice an opinion of any sort to support a change that would assist his colleagues this autumn.
This week just as the year is turning into 2024 the Leader of Northumberland Conservatives, Cllr Glen Sanderson appeared on the front of Local and Regional newspapers with a bragging rights story that he and his Council is delivering £2 a trip bus ticket completely omitting that the scheme of lower travel costs on buses is actually being run by the Tory Government in Office in order to support bus operators investors by offering increased use in exchange for break even profits to ensure a return for their chums, whilst claiming lowering the nations carbon footprint through minimising car travel into market towns and cities.
Huge Government cash injections don’t seem to worry Cllr.Sanderson if he can get his photo out on any media whatsoever the real truth doesn't need covering off when it's coloured the same shade as he wishes his blood was.
But Ian Levy MP has followed on through with a note which has been put out on social media, from MP Ian Levy’s Hexham Office, yes, his Hexham Office complaining from his position as the official Conservative candidate for the new Cramlington with Killingworth parliamentary constituency that the cost of rail travel from Cramlington to Newcastle is £5:90 for two stops, blowing Cllr. Sanderson and his travel by bus stance and kicking the Northumberland Tories support for the Northumberland rail line into the long grass as families along the route now know that rail travel is completely unaffordable for them and bus companies don’t need to worry about any loss of trade to rail in Northumberland.
