‘People are so upset with our secrecy that we are now holding our group meetings in No10’?.

Airwave harvesting is a prime function of the codgers group, so picking up social media chatter about Northumberland Tories secret world is nothing new to us but Monday's news was a bit of a shock.

We were already aware that the MP for Blyth Valley was holding a summer event at No 10 Downing Street to thank supporters for their loyalty now that the Constituency is changing forever from Blyth Valley into Cramlington with Killingworth and a number of local Blyth Tories booked in to attend. Unfortunately he also had to invite les miserables, his Councillors who sit at County Hall in Morpeth, according to social media they had other ideas than simply celebrating Ian Levy’s good fortune and to wish him all the best.

Ian Levy’s luck is still running, for just as things are getting so bad for the administration at County Hall he leaving most of the County behind and now that the truth is leaking out regarding overspending on one area (Morpeth) whilst ignoring other places is detrimental to the decency of a political parties public image, and of course the ballot box.

The damage of the secrecy stronger than the Sacramental Seal of the Confession, mob rule, service shrinkage, non-supportive to the core factions and parties within parties at Northumberland Conservatives, overspending public finances and regularly breaking promises has led to Northumberland Conservatives having great difficulty in locating premises where they can plan their latest shambolic spending spree to win the hearts of the electorate within the bounds of the North-East nevermind Northumberland. On Monday 14/08/2023 they met after the soiree in 10 Downing Street or so the airwaves say.

Leader of the Council, glamorous but gloomy Glen Sanderson, invited his colleagues to join him (while Rishi was away polluting the nation with a flying machine) to test out the real cabinet benches in a secure environment.

The last time they visited the corridors of power was to hail the International Partnership with Northumbria Health with pictures taken of happy Councillors on the balcony at Westminster. That was before their little plan was deemed unlawful, they had a section 114 served, also having a report from the Government Inspector Max Caller imposed upon them and an damning audit report that a Councillor who led the treasury portfolio wanted referring to the Police.

Although many of Glen Sanderson’s troops backed down from this jolly as they can’t answer the questions posed to them at the pub, village hall or the WI members on the street about the rundown of services under his control, this visit to the capital where the half of Councillors loyal to posh suits and a few who were there to report back to the MP’s they take the knee too sat sucking in the tainted atmosphere of Downing Street to see how they progress their damaged administration for another two years in the face of the  collapse of their Government in office.

Interestingly local Tory lad Steven Halliburton showed photos of himself boarding the London train at Newcastle and then outside No10 on Monday saying he has passed the interview, so were those who don’t want to work, politically speaking in the new Ashington and Blyth Constituency choosing a candidate behind the current MP’s back?

Or was it via the invitation from Fleet Street's finest to locate places to host another barge supported by oodles of cash to ensure it sits somewhere that doesn’t have enough infrastructure to support an influx of asylum seekers. As at least one of the anti Sanderson group sit in the North of the County we could speculate Berwick or Amble but as visitor numbers are dropping off due to No 10’s economic crisis, beaching one near Seahouses would probably be an advantage to Anne Marie Trevelyan as it would get those who want to vote reform to switch back to her or at least get her noticed in Morrisons.

As codgers we are currently speculating on the reason for their costly trip which is being painted as self financed visiting and not a jolly. We codgers hope to find that the Government of the day has actually found an unbusted flush to really bring a battery plant to South East Northumberland where the people don’t matter to the Tories who believe culture is a picture house, but we don’t expect so.

It will probably be another little while before the Counties electorate find out what the visit was really about other than to shake the hand of Ian Levy although Councillor Oliver of Corbridge’s demands that the police should be brought in to investigate the Councils International business seems likely due to its manifold reports in the press. He must have forgotten it was signed off by Conservative Councillors and as evidence is in place (they had pictures taken both in the North East and at Westminster) he may not like to get what he’s wished for. 

So if the police have succumbed to Nick Oliver's demands he will possibly have to sit as the lone Conservative Councillor in the very expensive County Hall chamber and send files with cakes in them to the compatriots he’s wrecked as their London trip may find them languishing in the Tower until the Council's Leader can grow his hair long enough to escape his plight, because as we all know, none of those who have attended this soiree would ever be able to spell Rumplestiltskin before Rishi introduces Oliver’s law to freely let the Police find they have all fallen down the steps to the cells and their names are erased from history.

If any of us were in Councillor Oliver's shoes we would probably ask Suella Bravermann if Northumberland Conservatives human rights have been breached by his open statements in the press and when she waxes lyrical with expertise then he may wish to book onto one of her trips for a permanent holiday in Rwanda instead of day trips to No 10 and County Hall in Morpeth.
