The ‘new’ north-east independent parties, how independent will they ever be?

 

Following in the footsteps of the former Labour MP Hilton Dawson who along with members of the Durham coalfields based Fair Party formed the anti establishment north-east party, the now ex Labour mayor of the North of Tyne combined authority is recruiting to destabilize the party who succored him into stardom the Labour Party.

Hilton Dawson whose history of falling out with the Labour Party is similar to Driscol’s although Hilton Dawson appears to have registered the North- East Party the Driscol appeal seems to be an attempt to form an unorganized independent rabble at all levels of politics with him as some sort of religious druid like figure sitting at the apex of his group trying and failing to leave his momentum background behind.

His wish to spread independence among candidates and the level of ‘control’ Driscoll would be seeking may entice those who have run previously under different shades of Jacobs coat to wave the white flag of independence.

For example, would Driscol accept an approach from Barry Elliot of Blyth? who has appeared on a few tickets mainly whose core vote is centered among the ultra right of politics with the Driscol ‘party’ centered on momentums ultra left or thats what were led to believe.

In Blyth where the local labour party expects Ian Lavery the current MP for Wansbeck to run as the candidate for Blyth with Ashington Elliot has said he is running as an independent candidate at the next general election. With local popularity polling suggests he will gain more traction than Mrs Levy the named Conservative candidate, this may spur him on to run in the South Beach area for the County elections in 2025 as conservative voting in that area is drifting away due to traffic and development problems via the tories development of a train line without enough stations to make it viable and so called engineering problems halting the valuable prize of a direct link with the metro at Northumberland Park. 

When coupled with the mess being created in Blyth town centre by the Tories and their financial mismanagement of Northumberlands purse strings creating a £30m black-hole in their budget Barry Elliot may be the darling the new ex-tory voters are looking for in South Beach.
