With it being a bank holiday and school half term our park bench codgers group numbers have dwindled a bit, but e-comms are still happening.
Quite a few of our team visited the County Show at Bywell over the weekend and along with grandchildren and friends enjoyed all the rural pursuits being demonstrated by our agricultural and countryside families from one of Britain's most beautiful Counties.
But many noticed the changes as Northumberland County Council and its partners had minimised its own and their partners' input into the show.
Those people watchers in the park bench group noticed Labour and Independent Councillors at the event including the very popular Leader of the Opposition and a retired Leader of the Opposition among the politicians supporting the event. It was noticeable however that Conservative Councillors were conspicuous in their absence.
Praise was given by park benchers to the Fire Service and Local Services who attended but there was no County Council tent, no Northumbrian Water and no Northumberland Tourism to show the public what their Council Tax, Water Rates and Business Rates are spent on. Local Services did have some recycling leaflets and doggie bags but nothing to stir support for Council services reared its ugly head.
Poor showing from your Tory team Councillors but are you all in a huff that this event isn’t held in Morpeth? Where all of your other spend on public entertainment appears to take place?
