Northumberland County Council, whose view of equalities sits in the storyline of George Orwell’s Animal Farm with the statement of “ All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others. ” 

WE, the codgers must ask if those who consider themselves more equal are Conservative members of Northumberland County Council. We believe that the Leader of Council, the leading Local Government Peer for the LGA in the North of England, Councillor Glen Sanderson, needs to come clean and make changes to his group as we have had serious more equal opinion issued by Councillor Watson, Councillor Paul Ezhilchelvan and more recently the long serving Chairperson of Council Councillor Richard Dodd, first elected to office in 1989 and now Chairperson of the County Council’s Health and Wellbeing committee who doesn’t seem to give a jot about the wellbeing of others.

This is just three of the large number of biassed right wing comments spewed out from Northumberland Conservatives elected members, but those sickening remarks don’t even reach the plimsoll line being set by the Council’s sinking ship and its conning of the Government in office. Written evidence was issued to the Government from Northumberland County Council in 2015 stating that working groups will be put up on the Counties meeting diary. The Tories no longer bother with that! “Equalities are for soft socialists”.

Labour freed up the information regarding working group meetings and their outcomes in 2015 to ensure the public had the chance to scrutinise the Councils work. They were rapidly removed in May 2017 as the ‘Secret Council’ took office.

But on social media the hidden, secret working group on Equalities has been linked with the viewing of ‘Barbie the Movie’ to help Tories on this massively important working  group gain a modicum of interest in women's rights. 

We here at murky believe the minutes and agenda of the Equalities working group is being kept in the Northumberland County Council’s safe so that ultra right wingers whom Conservative Councillors meet at the lodge or the pub or both are kept away from the importance of equalities and any links with poverty and deprivation among those who would have Councillor Dodd, Ezhilchelvan and Watson offered seats in the Lords along with the friends of Truss and Johnson, just to harden in the Tory vote on ‘Investors Pockets before unequal people’ ensuring George Orwell's prediction is sealed in as Policy in Northumberland.

Council where residents pay the highest UK council tax would not deny a 5% rise this year

A Government source has said to the press that almost every council in England is likely to raise council tax by the maximum amount due to funding gaps. 

A 5% rise would add £103 to the average bill, reaching around £2,168 per year. Last year, 84 out of 114 councils imposed the maximum rise permitted by the Government. The thresholds for the 2024-25 period will be outlined in December. 

The average council is projected to have a £33m deficit by 2025-26.

Councils have been approached by reporters and Northumberland have not stated that they will be among the one percent of Councils in England who will refuse to raise Council Tax to its maximum.

Last year Northumberland, a conservative led Council hid behind a 4.9% rise following four years of similar almost maximum rises since 2017 taking its band D payments to sit among the highest in the UK.

One report quipped that it's cheaper to reside in Westminster than buy a house in Alnwick and fork out to support Northumberland’s Council Tax bonanza!

A1-Maries Failure isn't all down to her pure incompetence, Brexit and an elitist culture from the Tories hasn't helped?

 

Its been widely reported that Parliament's Public Accounts Committee has warned that major projects - such as HS2, A1 dualling to Scotland, Crossrail, and major defence contracts - are failing or going over budget due to the failure of ministers to effectively manage projects or give guidance to officials. The Government, the PAC found, "does not have a standard definition for resets, with no specific guidance available", making it less likely that failing programmes are brought back on track.

Unfortunately for Government, on the same day a report from the UK in a Changing Europe think tank has found that new institutions created by the Government to replace public investment from the European Investment Bank (EIB) have replaced only a third of lost EIB investment. 

The EIB invested an average of £6.4bn per year in the UK between 2009 and 2016 in real terms, the report reveals - while successor institutions invested just £2.4bn last year. 

Infrastructure investment outside London and of course even though the English Tories in office may not have noticed, the extension of the A1 THROUGH NORTHUMBERLAND is outside London, financial input has fallen even faster, with investment at just 17% of levels seen under the European Investment Bank. Author Stephen Hunsaker found the new institutions are backing "fewer, smaller and lower-risk projects" due to their modest scale.

The failure of the elitist Tories in not replacing European investment levels adequately has led to a major decline in a number of industries. Institutional investors have been getting away with vacuum cleaning profits from our economy in every area from farming to energy supply with water and sewage treatment being obvious examples of where profits and payouts to shareholders have been immense yet reinvestment has failed ordinary people as even in London where investment still takes place schools were closed this week through the lack of fresh water supplies. Yet this current Government has no plans in place to force privatised public services to place people before profit in any essential industry with Northumberland's British volt failure a prime example of the Tories in action. Or should that read inaction?

It's back to the Past, for an MP caught-out by the public for not delivering on her promises.

A1-Marie Trevelyan has decided to revive twenty year old parish council campaigning methodology to act like her friend and colleague Councillor Glen Sanderson and tell the public that not delivering on promises needs to be treated as a “Lesson Learned”.

Following being captured by the public, as her colleagues at Westminster ditched both her and her neighbour Ultra Right-wing Tory, Ian Levy MP by not delivering on real time, much needed levelling up projects. 

In A1’s case it obvious as she has rattled on about a dual carriageway from Morpeth to Scotland for years and in Ian Levy’s scrapbook he will be able to keep plenty of blank pages intact as the wheels come off British Volt, a levelling up project he has continually had himself photographed at, & which promised to create 8,000 jobs across South East Northumberland is ditched by the Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. That ditching is in favour of a partnership with the Indian Company TATA to build a similar plant in Somerset cementing a link between his Mother in Law who worked in a high profile job for TATA and the UK.

So it's back to the past? After being seen off and embarrassed (not enough to give up the cash and retire) A1-Marie has decided to run a survey, this ancient method of trying to worm your way back into local society was a practiced art in Northumberland two decades ago when elections at parish Councils were in their infancy. 

The Deputy Leader of Northumberland County Council, labeled last week on youtube as ‘Basher Wearmouth’ by his boss Glen Sanderson used this now pathetic method along with ‘anytown matters’ or ‘anytown radio’ sites to control local debate. The Matters Type sites are now dominated by right and left wing activists which has damaged their viability to promote anything other than fascist or commie culture and when people are contacted via the survey the Tories have slipped so far off their perches that they would have to send ‘Basher’ himself to convince your granny to help them out. Watch out for the rolling pins basher those granny’s can swipe out flies from 30 paces!

Planning? Planning for what?

 

According to Northumberland County Council's own data in 2018 following their removal of the Council's core strategy from inspection by Government they were looking to develop 24,000 new homes between then and 2031. That was without any other applications being accepted onto the books.

Their rush to smash the former core strategy and replace it with a 'weak and watery' Local Plan with no links to or references towards other adopted policies of the Council has cost the Council tax payer dearly over the last six years as planning application after planning application has been stopped by Councillors and passed by national planning officers on appeal with costs given in favour of the applicant on most occasions.

This Tory Council's local plan was designed to build a 'ring of steel' around Morpeth and Ponteland and stop any development in what has been determined as one of the largest green belts to protect two farmers interests in particular in the UK. Its other prime purpose was to ensure that the Government can't bring forward developers who want to build Garden Villages. The Tories vital mistake with that part of the plan has allowed Newcastle City Council to build estate after estate running up towards Ponteland which over the coming years will make the 'villagey feel' of that small town into a suburb of Newcastle's west end.

The Local Plan was to develop 1,200 homes per year and dump most of them in the South East of the County with only 4802 permissions for development on brown field sites, a massive failure the next Labour controlled Council will have to resolve.

The third prime strategy sitting within the local plan is designed to force Council officers not to accept developments in the countryside. This idiotic idea which will allow villages, local schools and commerce to fade and die over the medium term has led to the loss of planning officers as they find it tough to fight developers over a strategy that is archaic in both principle and design and is mentally draining on professionals in the workplace.

It must be galling for Councillor Horncastle, head of planning at the council, who lives in the countryside, to see planning applications die and the villages he was elected to serve lose families, bus services and local amenities as they slip over to second home zones and places for the wealthy retired when new development would save the villages he obviously loves from long term strangulation.

Councillor Horncastle it's time you stood up to be counted and tell your leader that the former Core Strategy with new homes developed county wide is the real way to go and then instead of talking planning applications through with interim staff some decent planners may decide to return to the fold.

Is the cleaned up statement from fellow Tories on social media and beyond after the public hit Councillor Danial Carr’s attempt at stealing the limelight from his Group Leader and decide to expose the massive alteration (and obvious cash spend to go along with it) on Blyth’s seaside promenade by a Council sponsored Community Company, in readiness for the opening of the South Beach to Cramlington economic highway.

It’s been said that an asset transfer is about to take place from Active Northumberland, a County Council owned leisure organisation and a community company worth £millions.

Unlike the A1 through Northumberland and running alongside the Ward Danny represents will be a brand new dual carriageway to whisk Blyth residents into the heart of Cramlington’s shopping precinct as the Tories make a huge capital spend of public cash to ensure they kill off Blyth’s shopping experience and enlarge Cramlingtons.

Wiki’s description of Cramlington says it all :Cramlington is a town in the county of Northumberland, in the north-east of England.

Cramlington is about five miles from the coast. The nearest beach is at Blyth, which is to the east. The county town of Morpeth is rather nearby.

Newcastle city is also close, which people of Cramlington can go and enjoy.

Cramlington is rather new, with lots of parks. The bicycle track system means cyclists can travel around the entire town without having to travel on the roads. The underpasses under the major roads mean children can walk around safe from traffic.

Cramlington is about five miles from the coast  its the only amenity that the former Blyth Valley Council and the Seaton Valley UDC couldn’t give Cramlington New Town when they were developing it, but the Tories at County Hall can now supply Cramlington with a seaside in the 21st century.  That distance is to be quickened up with the new dual carriageway development linking the new Cramlington Beach with the new town itself. 

The alteration includes a bypass over a rail line and the closure of a direct route onto the A189 Northumberland Spine Road to ensure residents don’t get distracted and slip off to North Tyneside or Newcastle upon Tyne, so that Cramlington residents can run through to their seaside with its very expensive modernised and in Danny boy’s words ‘New Promade’ in minutes and Blyth residents will be able to spend their wages in Cramlington shops as they see their own commercial centre dying on its feet. 

The spend of Council capital  on Danny’s Council ward to encompass it into Cramlington, negates the thing most Northumberland residents really need and most actually want, the A1 dualled from Morpeth to Scotland. This now exposed massive spend in the South East minimises the help the County Council can give towards any government scheme to do work on the A1 in future. So that Cramlington becomes the darling of the Northumberland Tory network moving the expected spend by Morpeth residents on their Town into the dreaded former mining areas of the South East of the County.

We wonder if the next huge spend by the Tories will be to develop a new Council office block in the ‘Heart of Cramlington’ and reset its boundaries to include South Beach? Will Danny Boy spill the beans on that project first?
